ICYM Convention ‘Yuva Sambram 2010’ Focuses on Youth Power

Mangalore, Sep 26: ‘Yuva - Sambram 2010,' a deanery-level Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) convention, was held at Holy Cross Church Frad Saib Hall, Cordel, Kulshekar, on Sunday September 26. It was held under the aegis of Cordel parish ICYM unit. The convention was themed ‘Our Year; Our Voice.’
Swetha Rasquinha inaugurated the programme. She urged the youth to be ready for change and emphasized on the scientific progress that has taken place in recent years. Rasquinha appealed to the youth to help those who are in difficulty whenever there is an opportunity.
Cordel parish priest and deanery vicar Fr Valerian Pinto called on the youth to change themselves and walk in the footsteps of Jesus Christ which will bring showers of blessings on their families.
He urged them to be instrumental in proclaiming the Word of God through daily prayers. “The spiritual strength will enable them to overcome setbacks and surge ahead in life,” said Fr Pinto.
ICYM Mangalore diocesan director Fr Anil D’Souza laid emphasis on the theme of the International Youth Year which is ‘Arise and Shine’ and said that youth energy is a significant power poised for change and reform.
Cordel parish priest and ICYM deanery director Fr Arun Lobo, diocesan ICYM animator Sr Michelle, ICYM diocesan president Vincent Rodrigues, YCS Vittal animator Swetha Rasquinha, Cordel ICYM animator Susheel Noronha, ICYM city deanery president Nishel, secretary Johnson D’Souza, and ICYM Cordel unit president Priscilla were present on the dais.
Stany D’Souza, Kulshekar, and Muriel Crasta, Shaktinagar, were the resource persons at the youth seminar on ‘The Role of Youth in Family’, held on the occasion. Fr Vincent Vijay Saldanha, assistant administrator, Fr Muller Charitable Institutions, was the moderator of the seminar.
Quiz competitions and cultural programmes were also held on the occasion.
Cordel ICYM unit bagged first place while Angelore parish ICYM unit bagged second place in entertainment competitions. Cordel parish bagged first place and Bondel parish bagged second place in the quiz competition. Paldane parish bagged the third place. Pricilla Sequeira was awarded ‘Best Master of Ceremony’ on the same occasion.
The youth of 12 parishes of city deanery – Cordel, Bondel, Permai, Vamanjoor, Derebail, Shaktinagar, Neermarga, Kelarai, Paldane, Angelore, Bajal, and Kuloor, participated in the event.
Fr Arun Lobo welcomed the gathering and Carol compered the programme.
