Chandigarh, Sep 27 (IANS) The Panjab University will honour eminent author and journalist Khushwant Singh and former Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chatterjee with Doctor of Literature and Doctor of Laws degrees respectively, a varsity spokesman said here Monday.
"Eminent author and celebrated journalist Khushwant Singh has been recommended for conferment of the Doctor of Literature degree for his superb contribution in the field of journalism," the spokesman said quoting a decision of the university syndicate here.
He added: "The syndicate recommended Mr.Somnath Chatterjee, former speaker of the Lok Sabha, for the conferment of Doctor of Laws degree on him."
The Panjab University is the alma mater of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. He was a student of the university here in the 1950s and taught economics here in the 1960s.
