Hassan: Illegal trafficking - 18 calves die, 23 injured as vehicle topples

Daijiworld Media Network - Hassan (SP)

Hassan, Aug 20: The district had recently seen the deaths of several monkeys. Even before the bitter memories of that incident are forgotten, comes the information that 18 calves died when being illegally transported, after the vehicle carrying them toppled near Halebeedu. As many as 23 calves were injured in the incident.

The incident happened on the night of Wednesday at Dyavappanahalli near Halebeedu. The accident happened when the goods vehicle carrying the cattle hit an electric pole. After the accident, those who were transporting cattle deserted their vehicle and ran away. Twenty-three calves were rescued by the police and Hindu organization workers who reached the spot sometime later.

The locals believe that the accident would have happened after the driver tried to escape by driving fast after seeing policemen, as a result of which he would have lost control over the vehicle. BJP district president, H K Suresh, has demanded stringent punishment for those who were involved with the illegal transportation.
