Mangalore, Sep 28: Muzrai minister, Krishna J Palemar, said that he plans to enforce a blanket ban on buffet system prevalent in some temples, and direct the managements to use banana leaves during festivals and other occasions, to serve food to devotees. He was speaking at a meeting organized to discuss the renovation plans of Kadri Lord Manjunatheshwara temple in the city on Monday September 27.

During his visit, the minister also offered tender coconut Abhisheka to the Lord. He said that in the interests of sanctity of temples, banana leaves or alternatively, spathes of arecanut fronds, will be allowed to be used in temples for serving food. Reiterating that use of plastic in the temples will be banned completely, he urged the temples to give maximum importance to cleanliness.

The meeting discussed the issue of modernizing the roads leading to the temple from the welcome arch in Mallikatta and Kadri Kambala. It was also decided to streamline vehicle parking system at the temple.

President of the Temple Renovation Committee, A J Shetty, presided. Vice president, Pradip Kumar Kalkura, city corporators, Harinath, Shashidhar Hegde, Ashok D K, Roopa D Bangera, Bhaskar Moily, Ahswin, Tilakraj, temple administrative officer, Kusumakar, in-charge manager, Lakshminarayan, and Srikar Prabhu were present at the meeting.
