Muscat, Aug 25: Oman Social Forum celebrated India’s 75th Independence Day by holding poetry and elocution competitions, blood donation and free Covid vaccination camps.
Elocution competitions were held for children and state level poetry competitions were held for Kannadigas. Free vaccination camps were held at Mabela and Ruvi cities. Blood donation camps were held at Salala. Independence day messages were announced in various languages through Webinar.
More than 100 Kannadigas took part in the poetry competitions. First prize was won by Munavvar Jogibettu, second prize by Dr Suresh Nelaguli and third prize was won by Shamima Kuthar. In the online elocution competitions for sub junior category held for school children in Hindi, English and Urdu languages, Paria Younus and Rushda Fatima won first and second prizes. Abdulrehman and Nusra Fathima were declared winners in the junior division.
Free Covid vaccination camp was held at Al Salama hospital, Mabela on August 20 for a weaker section of non-residents. Hospital managing director Siddik inaugurated the camp. He said that social work should be our interest and hobby. “Those of us who reside abroad should essentially respond to the difficulties of non-residents. Amassing wealth should not be our only goal. We should earn the love of people too,” he said. Mohammed Saleem of Social forum explained the intention of the camps.
Similarly, Social forum’s Farook Kannangar inaugurated the blood donation camp held at Salala. About 75 non-resident Indians donated blood in the camp held in the cooperation of Life Line hospital, Salala.
The second stage of free Covid vaccination camp was held at Ruvi city. The celebrations of the Independence Day this year with cultural programmes and social work activities were the speciality.
