New Delhi, Sep 30 (IANS): Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L.K. Advani said Thursday that the Allahabad High Court judgment had upheld the right of Hindus to build a grand temple at the "place of birth of Lord Ram" and opens a new era for inter-community relations.
Reading out a statement after a meeting of senior BJP leaders at his residence, Advani said that the judgment was an important step in the construction of the Ram temple.
"The judgment has reinforced the right of Hindus to build a grand temple at the sanctum sanctorum. It is an important step forward for constructing the temple at the birth place of Lord Ram," Advani said.
He said Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) experts and agencies appointed by the court had also said that there was a Hindu structure at the place where the disputed structure had been built.
"BJP feels that the verdict opens a new chapter for national integration and a new era for inter-community relations. It is a matter of satisfaction that the judgement has been accepted by people with maturity," Advani said.
The meeting at Advani's residence was attended by BJP president Nitin Gadkari, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley and senior leaders including Venkaiah Naidu, Murli Manohar Joshi and Rajnath Singh.
