Mangaluru: POCSO accused jumps to death from court building

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (DV)

Mangaluru, Aug 31: A man accused under the POCSO Act died after he jumped from the court building here on Tuesday August 31.

The deceased is identified as Raviraj (31), a resident of Kinya. He reportedly jumped off from the sixth floor of Mangaluru district court.

It is learnt that the Raviraj took the extreme step due to mental trauma.

Raviraj

Raviraj was earlier arrested for allegedly sexually harassing minor girl. The incident was reported under Ullal police station limits.

It is gathered that the accused would have been granted bail in the case.

Bar council president, advocate Sachin said, “Raviraj was claiming that fake case was filed against him. He was upset. POSCO cases under section 8 and 12 were registered against him. He had applied for bail and there was possibility of getting the same in a day.”

Narasimha Hegde said, “This is second such case of death at the court complex. More than couple of years ago, a man ended his life jumping from the third floor here. It was a case under Bajpe station limits."

Definitely excess harassment from the police and from the accuser. Poor person has no sayings in this world and it might be the case of false complain. Poor guy could not bear the insults, torture and decided to end his life. Feel very sad for this person and to his family.

When the news was reported in Daiji, I had commented that case was so unbelievable. In a crowded place like thokkottu, a man is stopping a girl on bicycle and sexually harassing her? He was innocent for sure. The people who accused him of the crime which he did not commit will face the wrath of Karma for sure!!

What a tragic incident. This POSCO rule has been abused and the government should have relook into. Nowadays many fake cases are lodged by women against men and the latter has to prove innocence. What a shame as this is no justice.

Its not like that, its always innocent until proven guilty.....but under posco, onus of proving not guilty falls on the accused.

he was accused of sexual harassment of minor... not sexual assault or rape... prosecution has to prove that he is guilty... until then he is innocent....
