Kerala students will not be troubled in Karnataka: K Sudhakar

Bengaluru, Sep 2 (IANS): Karnataka Health Minister K. Sudhakar on Thursday said the students from Kerala, who are coming into the state, will not be troubled in view of the high number of Covid cases in Kerala.

The Karnataka government has imposed stringent restrictions on the people's movement from Kerala into the state.

"We are concerned about the Covid situation in Kerala. As many as 30,000 cases of Covid are being reported on Wednesday. The numbers are not coming down and institutional quarantine for those coming from Kerala is being made mandatory in this backdrop," he explained.

However, the state government is being pressured to relax stringent rules, especially for the students coming from Kerala, who come into the state to attend the all India level NEET examinations.

"It has been felt that one week quarantine for them is difficult and keeping their future in mind, we have directed the concerned education institutions to quarantine them in hostel facilities available in the college campuses," he explained.

Similarly, private companies and industries should take care of their employees' quarantine arrangements. Individuals who travel into Karnataka can quarantine at their homes, as the government is yet to reserve hotels in this regard, he said.

A big number of people from Kerala come into the bordering districts of Dakshina Kannada, Mysuru and Chamarajanagar for education and employment. They should be vaccinated twice and bring RT-PCR negative reports every week, a circular has also been issued in this direction, he said.

The care will be taken not to trouble students from Kerala. "We will keep track of them using the latest technologies. Contact numbers of all students will be collected and they will be monitored. There will be hiccups initially which will be sorted out," he said.

because of the zooming covid figures in KL, centre should consider how best to quarantine karela from rest of India. 1. stop flights from & to kl... 2. divert trains so that they do not pass through kerala 3. stop interstate buses to and from kl... 4. interstate movement should be limited to ambulances only with due verification.... if the above is ensured, the traffic from kl will reduce to miniscule... and rest of india will be safer from uncontrolled covid situation in Godown country... 75% of all india cases coming from kl... entire state should be declared containment zone...

Kasargod population - 14 lakhs Mangalore population - 5 lakhs Now try to figure out who needs supply of students to keep their instituions running after taking huge loans from bank. Kerala even threatened to build a new hospital in Kasargod after border was closed during first lockdown. You can imagine how the hospitals in Mangalore would've reacted to that. Already airport saw lesser traffic after Kerala opened new airport nearby.

Mallus were driven out of Mumbai in the 1960s for attempting to dominate the city, resorting to strikes and displaying their comana (CPM red flags) every three months. Today the city is thriving with equal opportunities for all Indians. I am afraid Bangalore and Mangalore will also be compelled to do the same if they don't come to their senses.

Note that Gowd Saraswats existed before the formation of Bangladesh or even Pakistan. Konkanis in Mangalore had been living before here since the 16th century. FYI the Konkani people of Karwar, Kumta, Ankola and Gokarne are true inhabitants of Karnataka, living there for centuries. This makes Konkani also as one of the languages of Karnataka.

I don't know what's scary. You repeatedly calling fellow Indians as "They" or the high number of "Agree" to your comments. Plus the accused in Mysore Rape Case are from Tamil Nadu, not Kerala. Not that, because of that we should start hating or calling Tamilians "They". Just because the state government of Kerala did a bad job of Covid Management, we should not discriminate against our country man. Besides from an economic perspective, kerala and keralite generates substantial revenue for Mangalore in particular and Karnataka. Similarly we generate revenue, business for Kerala. This should continue. Hating and calling Fellow Indians "They" wont help. Disclaimer : I am a proud, local Mangalorean.
