Bengaluru, Sep 2: Union Home Minister Amit Shah warmly appreciated the Karnataka’s effective fight against the Covid 19 pandemic under previous Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa and the present Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai with 5.2 crore persons being vaccinated so far.

Addressing a function at Davangere on Thursday, he said Karnataka has already vaccinated 5.2 crore persons, including 4 crore getting the first dose and 1.16 lakh persons getting both doses.

“I am confident that Karnataka will vaccinate more than 90% of people by the end of September,’’ he said.

Amit Shah said the country observed the most stringent lockdown to control the spread of the pandemic and subsequently undertook one of the most extensive vaccination drive under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“We can now proudly claim that India has vaccinated the maximum number of eligible people,’’ he said and described the vaccination of over 1.36 crore persons two days back as a world record.

He said the Modi government has distributed free foodgrains to 80 crore people for 10 months, which was one of the most humanitarian gestures. The Modi government is constantly trying to address the problems of the Dalits, downtrodden and tribal sections of society.

The Union Minister recalled the oxygen crisis faced by the country during the peak of the Second Wave and said the government had established thousands of oxygen plants and was now confident of facing any future shortages of oxygen.

He said 100% vaccination of all eligible adults was the only effective solution against the Covid pandemic and sought the cooperation of the people in ensuring the success of the vaccination efforts.

Amit Shah expressed confidence that the ruling BJP will emerge triumphant in the ensuing assembly elections in 2023 under the leadership of Bommai and Yediyurappa. The State Government has been implementing a series of pro-people welfare programmes, he said.

The Union Home Minister attended the wedding reception of Arpita, daughter of Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi with Hrishikesh in Davangere and congratulated the newly-wedded couple.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and most of the cabinet ministers along with local BJP MP G M Siddeshwar and MLAs attended the function.
