Kuwait City, Sep 3: Kuwait Canara Welfare Association (KCWA) held its first General Body Meeting (GBM) of the year 2021-2023, on August 27. The meeting was conducted virtually through Zoom platform and the meeting commenced with the opening prayer lead by Deepak Andrade. President Ruth Clara Veigas heartily welcomed the gathering and expressed her gratitude towards all members for their love and encouragement and all the donors and well-wishers for their continuous support.
Various reports were presented and appreciated by all. Jeneviv D Souza presented minutes of extraordinary GBM and Mervin Ferrao presented the activity report. Finance and membership reports were presented by Lavina D Souza and Sylvia D Costa.
Education fund updates presented by Veena Serrao, proudly announced that KCWA has reached a height of IRS 5 crore towards education fund and humanitarian aid. Generous contribution towards the project 'Each One Reach One to Teach One' (EOTO) for Daya Care Centre - Capuchin Krishik Seva Kendra, Belthangady, with the great support of donors, sponsors and members has enabled a collectionof Rs.13,08,030.
Cultural event updates presented by Ronson Saldanha, highlighted about ongoing events are like elocution competition, hello baby contest, traditional fancy dress and story telling competitions besides the ongoing traditional Konkani songs – a virtual training program. He also updated on upcoming events until February 2022.
Sports activity updates were presented by Preetham D Souza KCWA and updated on the long awaited cricket cup 2021 for members to be held on September 24 at Sulaibikhat UPL Grounds and following event, 'Sports Fest' to be organized in the month of October 2021.
KCWA website and social media updates were presented by Allan D Souza and informed the attendees about the launch of new web based system effective early September to streamline the members’ data and facilitate the renewal process whereby our members would receive system generated receipts by email upon renewal. The system would be effective for all renewals of 2022. Monthi Fest 2021 updates were presented by Jinella Rodrigues and donors list till date was shared by Praveen Fernandes.
Spiritual director Fr Noel D Almeida lauded the charity works of KCWA and congratulated KCWA family for supporting less fortunate in India as well as in Kuwait.
The winners of KCWA Konkani elocution competition was also announced during the general body meeting. KCWA conducted Konkani elocution competition during summer holidays for its members’ children. The competition held in three categories i.e., for Class 3- 5, 6-8 and 9-12. There were 13 entries altogether. Arun Jossy D Souza led the Winners ceremony and expressed gratitude towards Judges of this competition Fr Darel Fernandes, Sr Saritha Monterio, Rudy D Souza and Glades Noronha.

KCWA congratulated all the winners and also the participants for active participation. KCWA also thanked all the parents for their encouragement. The competition was successfully coordinated by Lavina D Souza, Arun Jossy D Souza, Savitha Fernandes and Allan D Souza and was well supported by the managing committee.
Naveen Mascarenhas proposed vote of thanks followed by closing prayer. Vice president Harry Fernandes was the moderator. Allan DSouza organized the virtual meeting. Around 50+ members and their families were present for the virtual meeting.
