Mangaluru City Corporation poised to provide most services online

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Sep 3: In order to relieve the common people of the need to move from pillar to post to get their work done, the local city corporation has planned to adapt itself to modern technology and offer most of its services online.

Already water bills and business licences are being provided online. Now, property tax will be included in the list. With this, the corporation has planned to get acclimatised to an online system. It has been in discussions with KEONICS in this regard and an app is being designed.

There is good opinion about the online water bill system already implemented by the corporation. In the past, people were finding it hard to personally visit the corporation and pay the bill. Now they have been able to avoid trips to the corporation and escape from the covid19 risks.

In the past, business licence procurement was a difficult affair as people had to stand in queue. Now, this service is being offered through an app. The corporation has plans to address certain defects in this app.

At the same time, Smart City Project is introducing an app, 'One Touch Mangaluru'. This app mainly focuses on the area being transformed into a Smart City but the Smart City plans to see that it works in all the 60 wards of the corporation. Various information about no water, no power, no garbage collection, dry waste collection tomorrow etc will be conveyed through mobile phones. The corporation also has been thinking of providing information like city guide, emergency service, building licence, information about facilities, parking areas, road information, water facility, business information, ration detail, public petition, how to pay fines , employment details, birth certificate etc online.

Mayor Premananda Shetty, says that the corporation will be laying more emphasis on providing online services. He said like business licence and water bill, property tax too will become online shortly and that a separate app is being created. He added that in the corporation also paperless concepts will get impetus.

"Now, property tax will be included in the list" - this assurance has been going on since 2017. Even last year it was said that the process is inching closer for completion. Hope it will come online for 2022.

Happy to hear the Good News from our City Corporation. A step really forward for all of us. I only hope that this will NOT be that easy as we think and profess. As long as it does not create an easy going life with lethargic attitude for us all ! IN ANY CASE, I WISH TO THANK OUR CONCERNED AUTHORITIES !!!
