Mangaluru, Sep 6: As Dakshina Kannada district shares the border with Kerala where Covid-19 infection is spiking, in the month of August, the district recorded 130 fatalities due to the infection. It is the highest in the state in the month of August.

As many as 101 deaths have been reported in Bengaluru urban in the month of August.

It is reported that 29 infected patients who died were from other districts of Karnataka. As per the health department officials, in the city there are 59% active cases at present. Nearly, 66% of the infected are under home isolation.

Speaking to Daijiworld, Ashok, the Covid-19 nodal officer of the district said, "As the positivity rate in Kerala is increasing and the district is sharing its border with Kerala, the cases are increasing here. There are many medical and para-medical colleges in the city and 90% of the students are from neighbouring states. The positivity rate in Kerala state is high. We cannot compare Mangaluru and Bengaluru. The scenario is entirely different. As our district is a border district, we are reporting more case.”

He also said that due to the centralised bed management system, patients from various districts are getting admitted in the district. Hence, the deaths of other district patients are also added to Dakshina Kannada district’s list of casualties.

"We have taken strict measures to control the spread of the virus, including in the airport. Under city corporation limits, a positivity rate of 3.02% has been recorded from the past one week,” he said.

He also informed that the positivity rate in Puttur, Sullia, Beltangady and Bantwal taluks is now declining.
