Bangalore, Oct 6: Cab driver Shiva Kumar, who was accused of Prathibha Srikanth Murthy murder case, was found guilty of raping and murdering the BPO employee.
A fast-track court in the city has found the accused Shiva Kumar guilty of the rape and murder. However, the verdict of the case has been deferred and the convict's sentence will be announced on Friday October 8.
It can be recalled here that Prathibha, who was working for a Bangalore call centre, was picked up for the night shift on December 3, 2005 by the cab driver Shiva kumar, who told her that the driver assigned to her route was on leave, and that he was the replacement. He took Prathibha to a deserted place in Anjanapura and not only raped, but also killed her to destroy the evidence. Her body was found three days later.
The sensational case had then forced the call centre industry to re-examine the security provided for women employees working on the late shift. BPOs began sending guards with cab drivers to pick up and drop women after Pratibha's death.
