Blackberry Services to Continue in UAE

Abu Dhabi, Oct 9 (IANS/WAM): Blackberry services will continue to operate in the United Arab Emirates as the services are now in compliance with the country's norm, the UAE's Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) said Friday.

"All Blackberry services in the UAE will continue to operate as normal and no suspension of service will occur on Oct 11, 2010," TRA said in a statement.

It also acknowledged "the positive engagement and collaboration of Research In Motion (RIM) in reaching this regulatory compliant outcome".

UAE's leading telecom service provider Du welcomed the notification from TRA.

"Since the TRA's Aug 1 announcement regarding the possible suspension of certain Blackberry services, our focus has always been to ensure continuity of service for our customers", Du said in a statement.

Another service provider Etisalat said: "In light of the TRA decision, the alternative mobility packages announced by Etisalat in August for its existing BlackBerry customers are no longer applicable".

Etisalat also announced that it will launch two new BlackBerry devices - the Torch and the New Curve, along with other exciting offers in the coming days.
