BJP Crisis: Speaker may Pronounce Order Before Trust Vote

Bangalore, Oct 11 (PTI): Speaker K G Bopaiah is likely to pronounce his crucial order on the petition by chief minister B S Yeddyurappa  -- seeking disqualification of 11 BJP rebel MLAs -- just before tomorrow's vote of trust in his beleaguered government comes up in the state assembly.

The speculation doing the rounds in the state legislature tonight is that Bopaiah may time the order tomorrow in such a way to avoid any possible appeal before the Karnataka high court ahead of the floor test proceedings which is scheduled to commence at 10 am.

The Speaker had reserved his order earlier in the day without giving any time-frame in a move that left everyone guessing over what shape the political drama in Karnataka will now take.

Bopaiah and Karnataka Governor H R Bhardwaj are already locked in a confrontation over the fate of the 11 BJP rebels which could have a bearing on the survival of the BJP's first government in the south.

The Governor directed the Speaker to maintain the 'configuration' of the House as it existed on October 6, effectively asking him not to disqualify any rebel MLA before the floor test in the Assembly.

The Governor's direction evoked a strong condemnation from the Speaker who called it an 'interference' with the discharge of his duties.

Disqualifying Independent MLAs is so ridiculous. Speaker should be suspended and legal case has to be filed on the speaker. I don’t know these guys take oath on God’s name and go to witch’s for favors.

Either of the case, Govt. will evaporate soon. Yeddy trusted alone in Astrologers for sure to rule for 5 years but not in good governance. All religious disharmony created, mine wealth looted…. all has to take its toll. This is the divine rule. Nothing will come out from Yeddy’s several visits to placate in gods places.

    Mr. Langoolacharya: It seems like,
based on the political manipulations and undercurrents
being developed in Karnataka, the Governor will be forced to dismiss
    the ministry. So, your political
observation is going to be 90%
correct, and I do agree with you.

    Folks,

I did not like how speaker exonorated Sampangi, after he was caught red handed by Lokayukta.

I also think, nobody can be punished for commiting a offense, before commiting it....so MLAs could be disqualified only after they defy the party whip (and possibly toppling Yeddy Government).

However, Speaker is not required to listen to Govornor's dictates, he is responsible to the house, constitution, and judiciary....

My gut feeling, he is going to disqualify rebels, and probably governor will recommend dismissal of Yeddy Government....Let's see what happens!!!

I think speaker is aware of consequences if he takes a wrong decision. Not governor even court of law will not uphold your rulings, please mind it.
