New Delhi, Sep 14 (IANS): Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal will travel to Haldwani and Nanital in Uttarakhand as a part of his election tour ahead of the Assembly elections in the state scheduled in 2022.
"AAP national convenor & Delhi CM Shri @ArvindKejriwal to visit Uttarakhand's Kumaon region. CM Arvind Kejriwal will reach Haldwani on 19 September, 2021. Important tour in view of the upcoming Uttarakhand assembly elections," the Delhi-based party said in a tweet.
"The agenda of CM's visit to the state is presently being planned," a source said.
Earlier in August, Kejriwal had named Col (Retd) Ajay Kothiyal as AAP's chief ministerial candidate for the Uttarakhand Assembly elections.
He had said that the people of Uttarakhand do not want politicians but a patriot army man, who has fought for the country, battled terrorists, carries two bullets in his body, and played a major role in the reconstruction of Kedarnath after the 2013 tragedy.
"People here want a break from politicians who have only looted the state. They now want an Armyman as CM who will not spend his tenure filling his coffers but serve them," Kejriwal had said in Dehradun, adding that he wishes to develop Uttarakhand as a spiritual capital for Indians living across the world.
He had also assured people of generating employment opportunities for the youth if AAP is voted to power in Uttarakhand.
Kothiyal had joined AAP in April this year at an event in Haridwar.
With AAP jumping into the fray by banking on a retired armyman and the Congress as the main opposition, a triangular contest also involving the ruling BJP is anticipated in the hilly-state.
The Kejriwal-led party has planned to contest all the 70 seats in the state.
