Mangaluru, Sep 23: Former MLA J R Lobo and Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) opposition leader A C Vinayaraj alleged that the MCC administration is earning kickbacks from the waste disposal contract.

Addressing media here on Thursday September 23, Vinayaraj said, “The contract of Anthony Waste Management will end on January 2022. During the MCC council meeting, a DPR was formed for waste disposal worth Rs 52 crore in which Rs 38 crore is allotted for buying vehicles for waste disposal and transportation. Along with it, 1,175 civic workers will work under the new contractor. The BJP administration in MCC has not taken Congress into confidence before taking the decision. Percentage administrations are ruling in MCC and are receiving kickbacks out of the new project.

“We all know how Ramakrishna Mission has relentlessly worked for the cleanliness of Mangaluru city in the last 5 years as they were ready to take up the responsibility of waste disposal which was appealed to the MCC. The MCC failed to respond and took up the decision of Rs 52 crore project for waste disposal,” said Vinayaraj.

Corporator Shashidhar Hegde, Naveen D’Souza, Praveen Chandra Alva and others were present.
