Mangaluru, Sep 29: The prayer hall located in the cemetery of the Christians in Mannagudda here, which had been constructed in the year 1886 has been reconstructed by the government. The renovated prayer hall will be inaugurated at 10 am on October 3.
Benet G Amanna said that the members of Bokkapatna Vishranti congregation that was founded 138 years back, had built a prayer hall in the cemetery at Mannagudda in 1886. "The hall, which was in a dilapidated state, has been reconstructed by the state government under an initiative taken by MLA Vedavyas Kamath," he explained.
Basel Mission tiles factory had started functioning in Kudroli in 1882. In the facteory, protestant Christians assembly and in 1884, primary school, were built in the Basel Mission factory premises. In 1886, under the leadership of August Menner, a separate church was built in 1888. It came to be known as 'Vishranti Devalaya'. Later separate building was constructed for the school but recently this school was closed down.
Bishop of Protestant Karnataka Southern diocese, Mohan Manoraj, will deliver benedictory address. Priest of the Vishranti Sabhe, Santosh Kumar, will be the celebrant for the mass. City mayor, Premananda Shetty, and city corporator, Sandhya Mohan Acharya, will participate.
