Margaret Thatcher Admitted to Hospital with Infection

London, Oct 20 (DPA) Former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher was admitted to hospital in London late Tuesday, suffering from an infection, a government spokesman said.

Thatcher, who turned 85 a week ago, pulled out of a party Thursday in her honour in Downing Street because of the flu, the office of Prime Minister David Cameron said.

Cameron wished the former leader a speedy recovery Tuesday.

Friends were quoted as saying that Thatcher was still being troubled by the illness and was expected to stay overnight at the private Cromwell hospital in central London.

Thatcher, who was prime minister from 1979 to 1990, suffered several strokes after she left office and is also suffering from dementia.
