The spacecraft blasted off at 17.11 GMT from Kazakhstan's Baikonur space centre, a spokesman for the Russian space agency said.
The Globalstar-2 satellites will provide high-quality voice and data services to over 120 countries and North America.
Globalstar is a low-earth orbit (LEO) satellite-based telecommunications system built by US-based Loral Corporation and Qualcomm Inc.
