Russia Puts Six US Satellites into Orbit


Moscow, Oct 20 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Russia's Soyuz spacecraft put six US communications satellites into orbit Tuesday, an official said.

The spacecraft blasted off at 17.11 GMT from Kazakhstan's Baikonur space centre, a spokesman for the Russian space agency said.

The Globalstar-2 satellites will provide high-quality voice and data services to over 120 countries and North America.

Globalstar is a low-earth orbit (LEO) satellite-based telecommunications system built by US-based Loral Corporation and Qualcomm Inc.
