Udupi, Sep 30: The judgement of the state high court (HC) in quashing the petition that had questioned the appointment of a minor as heir to the Shiroor Math throne by the head of another Math has been hailed by the heads of various Maths here. On Wednesday, devotees of the Maths celebrated the decision by distributing sweets in the car street area.
Sri Ishapriya Teertha Swamiji of Paryaya Admaru Math, Sri Vidyadheesha Teertha Swamiji of Palimaru Math, and Sri Vidyavallabha Teertha Swamiji of Kaniyoor Math expressed happiness at the stand taken by the high court in the case.
Sri Vishwavallabha Teertha Swamiji of Sode Math said that he had, in the capacity of the head of the Dwandwa Math of Shiroor, had managed Shiroor Math administration for nearly three years after the demise of the head of that Math without appointing a Shishya (heir). He said that in May last he had initiated an eligible person into the religious service and made him head of Shiroor Math duly christening him as Vedavardhana Teerthas Swamiji. He said that the high court, by quashing the writ petition that had questioned the appointment of the new head to Shiroor Math, had served the cause of justice. He recalled that this tradition had been set by Sri Madhwacharya about 800 years back and the court has rightly upheld the same.
