Udupi, Oct 9: After finding a doctor guilty of reckless driving in a case relating to the death of a girl in an accident which happened four years back, the court of the first additional chief judge and JMFC awarded two years jail term apart from fine. The judgement was delivered on Thursday October 7.
Dr Laxmiprasad Bhat (42), a resident of Alevoor here was given this sentence. He was accused of driving his car on March 16, 2017 at high speed and recklessly, and causing the death of Kshama (11) daughter of Keerthi Kumar, who was walking by Badagubettu road here. Kshama who had suffered grievous injuries in the accident, had breathed her last in a hospital sometime later.
Udupi police circle inspector Naveenchandra Jogi, had investigated the case and filed a charge sheet against the accused in the court. Judge of the court, Shyam Prakash, who conducted the hearing, found that the charge levelled against the accused had been proved. In addition to sentencing the doctor for two years, he also imposed a fine of Rs 11,000 on him.
Assistant public prosecutor Mohini K, had argued the case on behalf of the prosecution.
