Kuwait: Kids Participate Enthusiastically in IMWA Qur'an Competitions

Kuwait, Oct 24: Indian Muslim Welfare Association (IMWA)-Kuwait held its state-level 'Qur'an Competitions 2010' for school children on Friday October 23 under the patronage of Kuwait ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and the administration of Grand Mosque, at Indian Public School, Salmiya.
Approximately 400 enthusiastic students exhibited their talents in this competition. The competition was separately organized for boys and girls of grade 1 to grade 12 in three segments. The participants were divided in to 10 groups for Qur'an memorization competitions, 8 groups for Qur'an related elocution and further 8 groups for Islamic quiz.
Jawed Anwar described the format of the competitions at the inaugural session to the participants, parents and to the juries. Nazi Ticklye, the convener of women's cell of IMWA gave necessary guidelines to the panel of female juries and participants and team of volunteers.
The jury panel was well qualified in the respective field with enough experience in evaluating the students in similar competitions, said sources from IMWA-Kuwait.
A lecture session under the title 'Qur'an and your Children' was specially arranged for parents of the participants to enlighten them on how best they can provide Qur'anic education to their children alongside their academic education.
Nisar Ahmad, during his talk emphasized on the importance of imparting knowledge of Qur'an to the young children and asked the parents to be the best examples for their children. A similar lecture session was separately organized for the ladies on the sidelines of the competitions.
IMWA Qur'an Competitions 2010 comprised Qur'an recitation from memory, Islamic quiz and elocution on Qur'an-related topics. The event was appreciated by the ministry officials, parents and enthusiastic participants.
Most of the schools in Kuwait sent students in batches under the supervision of teachers of Islamic studies, says the press release of IMWA. President Mir Ibrahim Ali Khan thanked the panel of male and female juries, the school administration, teachers of Islamic Studies and principals, and the parents for their continued support and cooperation to conduct a massive school-based event year after year.
IMWA sources have said that the results of this much-awaited competitions would be posted on www.imwakuwait.org on the forenoon of Thursday 28 October. The press note also said that there would be a spectacular ceremony for the presentation of awards and certificates to the winners on November 5. More details would soon be posted on IMWA website.
IMWA is an all-India body of Indian Muslim community in Kuwait which is registered at the Indian embassy and maintains rapport with the ministry of Awqaf and the people of host country Kuwait, said Mujeebullah K V, the media convener of IMWA.
