Mumbai: Animal cruelty – 22 Stray dogs poisoned in Ratnagiri

Mumbai, Oct 9: Ratnagiri police have registered a case under section 428 of IPC (mischief by killing or maiming animal) and the Prevention of cruelty to animals act 1960 on alleged poisoning of 22 stray dogs in Ratnagiri city on the night of Wednesday.

Giving details of the heinous act, Sanil Dongre, animal activist based in the city of Ratnagiri said, “I got a call from an animal welfare activist on the night of Wednesday saying that she has come across four dead dogs on Arogya Mandir bus stop. When I rushed to the spot and checked nearby locations along with the activist, we could find 18 more dead dogs, which took the totally number to 22. Prima facie it seems that the dogs are poisoned by unknown miscreants. “

One more animal welfare activist said that the act is inhuman. Poisoned chicken rice was found near the bodies of the dead dogs. Police should take stringent action against the offenders.
