Kasargod: Court holds man guilty of murdering wife through serpent

Kasargod, Oct 12: In a case that had kicked up tremendous curiosity not only in Kerala but also elsewhere, the additional sessions court in Kollam held a man guilty of murdering his wife with the help of a cobra. The judgement was delivered on Monday October 11.

Judge of the court, Manoj M, however said that the quantum of punishment would be announced on October 13.

Suraj S Kumar has been arrested on the allegation of murdering his wife by arranging for snake bite. He faces charges of destruction of evidence and poisoning his wife. The accused was present in the court when the judge announced the verdict.

In this case, which is considered as one of the rarest of cases, Suraj had got his wife, Uttara (25), killed out of snakebite. Uttara had lost her life on May 7, 2020, under suspicious circumstances. Her mother, who grew suspicious, had complained to the police. The police took Suraj into custody and interrogated him after which he confessed that he had got his wife killed through a cobra.
