DKS denies links in alleged ‘percentage kickbacks’ in irrigation contracts

Bengaluru, Oct 13: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President D K Shivakumar has denied his involvement in the ’percentage kickbacks' allegedly received in the irrigation department contracts as revealed in leaked conversation between KPCC Working President Salim Ahmed and former party MP V S Ugrappa as aired in the TV channels.

Addressing a news conference at the KPCC office on Wednesday, Shivakumar made it very clear that he had no involvement in the scandal as shown in TV channels and asserted that the party has nothing to do with the percentage kickbacks in the irrigation department contracts as allegedly claimed by Salim Ahmed in the leaked conversation with Ugrappa.

“Ugrappa has already clarified that the conversation was not true and Shivakumar was not named,’’ Shivakumar said and asserted that the decision of the Congress party’s disciplinary committee is binding on all.

Shivakumar said: “I am not contending that the conversation did not take place. The internal and private conversation among two persons does not become official. Ugrappa has already clarified. Let the disciplinary committee headed by former Council Chairman K Rehman Khan take note of the issue and inquire.’’

Answering questions on Home Minister Araga Jnanendra’s statement that he is ready order a probe if a formal complaint is lodged, the KPCC Chief said: “Why should the government wait for a formal complaint? Let them order a suo motu probe. I welcome it.’’

Shivakumar said he does not want to deny that the conversation did not take place. “I am only saying that I am not involved. I have not received any percentage in irrigation contracts and the party is also not involved,’’ he said.

He pointed out that the media has done its work and aired the conversation just as it did regarding the conversation between former Chief Minister Yediyurappa and late Union Minister Ananth Kumar or the conversations involving Adagur Vishwanath, Basanagouda Patil Yatnal. “My only point that I wish to declare is that I have nothing to do with the alleged conversation,’’ he added.

Shivakumar said those who clap, shout slogans, hurl stones, abuses or eggs and criticise are common in politics. Such persons are there in all parties. But there is no groupism and factionalism in the party. “I do not belong to any faction nor support any group. Party is important to me,’’ he declared.

He made it clear that he was not aware of the statement by BJP National General Secretary C T Ravi that those who conspired against former KPCC President and Deputy Chief Minister Dr G Parameshwar, were behind the conspiracy against him and said he will speak about it after verifying details.

Shivakumar pointed out that nobody has made any official or public comment on percentage kickbacks. They must have spoken about the 30% commission received by BJP leaders as alleged by Adaguru Vishwanath, he said and asked why nobody asked a former minister when he allegedly spoke about the corruption in the BJP in his own bedroom.

“The Congress party is united and there is no groupism nor is anybody gunning for me. I am not afraid of anybody,’’ he declared.

As far as corruption is concerned, nobody can beat BJP. “This government was formed due to corruption and is surviving because of corruption,’’ he said.

Did ever DKS admitted all the wealth he has accumulated are from corruption? When did he admit to his crimes. Never. All ministers in any party are the same and that is the reason why they fight for power. It's not a fight to upkeep peoples interest. But to top up their own bank accounts. All those ministers prooven guilty should be debarred from contesting future elections and should be hanged. Jai Hind. Jai Sri Ram.

Irrigation contracts, and many contracts are awarded annually by Karnataka Government regardless of which Government is in power. I was surprised to hear that annually X00 crores is released to NGOs (typically usual suspects including elected and non-elected representatives' shadow NGOs win these contracts). Over the years, we have only seen erosion of forests while these several hundred crores are used for "campaigning only" to preserve forests. JDS Supremo built his party with strong support from contractors only who are mainly from sugar belt and Hassan. That allowed him monopoly over power corridor in Bangalore for quite some time. When it comes to corruption, all are in the same boat (elected and non-elected who preside over permanence). So, eradication of corruption and ROI on taxes we pay is only possible if more and more private participation in Government business with public scrutiny and transparency. Air India is a good starting point. Those aspiring for a career in politics also should understand that there is a fixed price for a MLA and MP ticket. Candidates also know very well that there is only one way to get ROI on this investment. No, they are not contesting for serving the public. DKShi therefore is a successful politician with reason and even Sonia Gandhi acknowledges it.

DKS would demand his cut from hanging person before offering his neck for hanging. Son of a farmer, had some education in a govt college, never worked in any job. Only politics was his source of Income. Declared income for election purpose over Rs 800 crores. Owner and partner in many shopping malls in Bengaluru, some are in his daughters name. Only yesterday one of the building belonging to him had its opening with Asias largest hypermarket. Ask any industrialist who wanted power connection how much bribe they had paid during the tenure of this person in charge power and irrigation. 12% quoted is on a lower side. That is qualification to be President of Inc, and as of now Inc is ruling 2 or 3 states, their source of illegal fund required for Election is limited. That is the reason why this man has been made President of INC in Karnataka

We have personnel links to commission copped up for commercial purposes/ connections when this fellow was in his peak collection business as Power Minister Of Karnataka. His Shishya, Mari Dkshi of DK , Thadanantha was his collection agent for Undivided DK. Never was commission raised up to this level in Karnataka. He would have doubled his whole lifetime income just in that 5 year term under Tipperamiah's Govt.
