New Delhi, Oct 30 (IANS) Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan Saturday offered to resign over the allotment of flats in Mumbai meant for war heroes to politicians, bureaucrats and military officials.

A visibly subdued Chavan made the admission after meeting Congress president Sonia Gandhi at her 10 Janpath residence here.

Chavan told reporters that he told Gandhi: "I am here, my resignation is also here. I leave it to you to take a final view."

He said he had briefed her about the controversy related to the Adarsh Housing Society whose flats were originally meant for families of soldiers killed in the 1999 Kargil war with Pakistan.

He said he briefed her about the scam. "I have kept the truth in front of her... The truth should come out so that we can find out who all are responsible."

Among others, Chavan's mother-in-law and two other relatives are reported to have got flats in the housing society.

The scandal has raised a stink, with some senior military officers who got flats claiming they did not know it was meant for "Kargil martyrs".

Congress fighting against the corruption in Karnataka, while they looted 70000crores by CWG,mammoth 20000-60000 crore in 2G, involved in distributing the flats built for the Kargil heroes widows illegally to the relatives of CM,beureucrates,defence officials, Narayan Rane illegally taking the right of temple land in his wife's name, dont know what to mention!!!? These corrupt leaders are being justified by the people in the public forum, what a shame ?? Do you think they are not involved in luring the BJP MAL's to topple the government?? JDS & COngress combindly arranged the revolt.I think the shameless CHAVAN must immediately resign, but he is still continuing in the office, may be to see all the related evidence be cleared before he is made to step down in order to set up another enquiry just to fool the common man .Are these Congress men are animals??

All congress supporters, please remember last week supreme court, held CBI reposible for slow enquiry about 2G/Raja scam. CBI was speechless, all of you know what is CBI. One who lives in glass house, dont throw stones to others, regardless of party stand against corruption.

Who told you that Kalmady's CMG Scam is only 30% of yaddis scam of 2500 crores. Do you know how much was estimated/budjet to CMG??? JUST 3500 CRORE. But how much spent??? Just 70000 Crores. Go to class 4 and study maths correctly. 30% of 2500(Yaddi scam) crores not = 70000 crores (your Kalmady scam).

Resignation of CM will not solve purpose .CM should continue his job and let investigation on.If CM resigantion is accepted , matter will be cool and investingation will go slow .In presence of CM scam may be investigated

One important thing I have noticed through this forum is that, there are some hard core supporters of their beloved party, who puts in every effort to justify the wrong doing of their party leaders by pointing finger at the other party. These hypocrites do not understand that their tax paid money is being pocketed by someone. Multiple high-end properties of Bangalore city is grabbed by these saints. Someone’s wife has been raped. Someone has been slapped by a minister’s goons. Funds are being diverted to improve the status of private property. Because of this kind of blind support politicians show their high headedness no matter which party he belongs to. If we don’t change our attitude towards the politicians, we will never be able to change this corrupt and criminal society.

Governor of 2 states will recomend president rule in that states or governor conducts press conference anywhere??????

Even if you add Kalmadi to this it wont be 30% of Yediyoorappa and party's total corruption. Where are you marayaa.. He just spent 2500 crores in 3 months to save his chair by bribing, visiting temple, flying to resorts etc...

Sonia Gandhi's decision to summon Ashok Chavan and make him answerable is a brilliant gesture by her and Congress. This goes to show that Congress has matured into a "no nonsense" political party.

Yeddy and his band of "Chaalis Chor's" too should be made accountable for the looting thats taking place in Karnataka.

If Congress has the conviction to kick out corrupt and inefficient politicians then BJP has proven that they harbour all criminals and looters ... they follow a policy of "NO QUESTIONS ASKED!!"

Chavan must step down & face the enquiry,since he has admitted openly there was some wrong doings in alloting the flats.Surprisingly even the Defence senior officials are involved in the scam & now acting as if they didnt know whom the authorities were building the flats for?? One must see a impartial judgement taking place,the first step Sonia Gandhi in this regard is very much appriciated,by assigning Hon.Mr Antony & Mr.Pranav Mukerjee but if she allow Chavan to continue in the office like she did in case of CWG where all the ministers & OC officials are allowed to continue in power despite ordering the enquiry , there is meaning in it.How can a justice take place when the culprits are allowed to occupy their seat & play with the records in their favour?? Now people must form a forum to pressurise the government in taking the neccessary action, else it will lead to disaster!!

It is not the first time that the nation has witnessed such scams. Forget about the homes for the widows, there were governments which made scams out of the coffins for the same Kargil Heroes. and then were arm deal scams. It is better to write Articles on Scams in Independent Indian History. It is rightly said that Power Corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Do we Indians have make a habit with living in scams? Who will bell the cat?
These Mining, Housing, Food Arms, Is there any area in our lives which is untouched by scam ? It is same in Central as well as in Karnatka or any other state. There are no Psuedos. everyone is fake.

This is the straight case of nepotism and Mr Chavan should resign. I am happy that Congress is not protecting him and I am sure he will be thrown out.

Now similar nepotism we saw in Karnataka when Mr. Yedyurappa de-notified the land for his sons but shamelessly did not resign. On the contrary BJP was protecting Mr Yedyurappa.

Mr. Yedyurappa learn some lessons from this incident.

Corruption in its height !.. Congress is corrupt party and party that blesses corruption. BJP is corrupt as well as communual party and use all corrupt means to stay in power. We should have third front as an alternative to these dirty parties. There should be mass awareness. I commend our neighbouring Kerala who elect their government alternatively, a state where one party has not come to power for consecutive two terms. They are the most educated lot. We should too have such an electorate where parties cant hold the people for ransom and cant take them for granted.

Whilst congress is alloting the falts meant for the widows of Kargil martyrs, BJP is all out to make money on coffins of these dead soldiers. Parties making money on the dead sons of our country who sacrificed their lives defending it. What a shame... Moraleless people and ethicless political parties....

Atleast some party has ethics. When charges are framed, people are offering resignation. In our state things are very different. Irrespective of number of scams and size of the scam, our state leaders are ready to do anything to retain power. Anyways 5 years is good time to loot as much as possible. Keep going.
