Oman Bunts Exhibit Exemplary Spirit on Sports Day

Oman, Nov 3: The 23rd Oman Bunts annual gathering second event of the year, the sports day was held, recently at Sidab Football Stadium, Sidab here.

The previous night all the male organizers with the young volunteers prepared the stadium for the various events. The event started at 7.30 am with the semi-finals of the cricket match between Buntara Jawanere and Namana teams. The second semi-final was between Sahara and Ramee teams.

A fantastic running commentary in Kannada by Jayaprakash Shetty, Hindi commentary by Rajesh Shetty and Ashok Shetty kept the crowd entertained with inputs in English by Rathnakar Shetty. So it was unity in diversity. That is an important message for all Indians. The crowd started building as the time went.

The knock out matches was held earlier at the same ground between total 12 teams for cricket and 12 teams for volleyball which went on from 7.00 am to 5.00 pm with breakfast and lunch being served.

The final cricket match was between Ramee and Namana teams. The final winners in cricket was the RAMEE team with a few budding league players.

Simultaneously as the final of the cricket was going on the athletic events for children
and ladies were conducted by the lady organizers. The event was compered by Dr Vijayalakshmi R Shetty.

The first event was the running race for children between 5 to 8 years. There were two rounds and then the finals. Winners were Dhanvith Shetty (first) and Anika Ariga (second).

Second event was Pick the ball, a race for children below 5 years.They had to run and bring the colored ball from their mothers and run back to the organizers. It was indeed cute to see those tinytots running, a great spirit of sportsmanship. The winners were Aakarsh Shetty (first) and Bhakthi Shetty (second).

Next running race was for 9 to 12 years. The winners were Shashwath Rai (first) and Akshara Shetty (second).

This was followed by a running race for children above 13 years. The winners were Sai Swaroop Rai (first) and Rakshith Shetty (second).

A second round of fun games for all groups was held.

Picking and Wearing the cap race - correctly and running to the finish point without holding the cap for children between 5 to 8 years. The winners were Janav Shetty (first) and a tie for second place between Dhanush Shetty and Pradyumna Shetty.

Next for 9 to 12 years was spoon and the ball race . They had to run to the finishing line with the small colored ball kept on the spoon and holding the spoon at the end. The winners were Vikshith Shetty (first) and Shristi Shetty (second).

Ball in between the knees race for 13 and above where the participants had to keep the tennis ball between knees and run or hop or walk till the finishing end. The winner was only Shrejas Shetty as all the balls fell off from the racers.

Next was the turn of the ladies to show their strength and stamina with the shot put. The winner was Sujata Rai who threw the shot put upto a distance of 7 mts. The second place was Vanishree Shetty.

This was followed by ringing the wicket. There were three people who ringed the wicket.

Finally first place given to Sujatha Rai and second place was a tie between Shashi Shetty and Poornima Ariga based on the distance they threw the ring .

Meantime lunch was served by sponsors Ramee Dream Resort.

Volleyball semi finals was held between Sahara C and Jaya Karnataka A teams and second semi finals between Namana and Jaya Karnataka B teams. Finally the finals of the volley ball between Namana and Sahara C teams

The winners were Sahara C team with runners-up being the Namana team.

Throwball was played between two teams, Namma Kudla and We friends teams. The winners were Namma Kudla team.

As it was becoming dark the kabaddi matches were still to be held and went on in floodlight. It was interesting to see the vigour among the youngsters to play the old traditional game of India . No matter they hurt their feet, hands and legs they still continued the game.

There were totally 7 teams. Semi finals was between Namana and Ramee teams, while second semi finals between Bunta Jawaner and STS teams. Finals was between Bunta Jawaner and Namana teams Final winners were Bunta jawaner team .

The cricket umpires were Samir, Mahendra, Santosh and Praveen divided between both the days.

Volleyball and throw ball umpire was Shiva Kumar with Kabbadi umpire being Bharath.

The sponsors were IFFCO for soft drinks, Poccari by Muscat Pharmacy, Badam Milk by Ramesh Shetty, Ground,Chairs and Shamiana by Shashidhar Shetty, Diwakar Shetty, Shreedhar Shetty, Lunch by Ramee Hotel group, Breakfast under sponsorship of Jayapal Shetty, Suresh Shetty, Ashok Shetty, Ujwal Shetty, Snacks by Ashok Shetty, Nabil biscuits, Tang by Narayan Shetty – Fair trade and finally sound system by Ganesh Shetty, OMASCO.

The day ended in flood light rural sport after which all went home with good memories.
