Mangaluru: Multi-level parking project at Hampankatta - Initiation on November 2

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Oct 30: The long-pending and oft-spoken multi-level car parking-cum-retail space project that had been planned a few decades back, appears to be set for implementation at last. This long-awaited project will get going on November 2.

The project is being implemented at a cost of Rs 95 crore in 1.55 acres of land at the old bus stand area under public-private-partnership (PPP) model. City mayor, Premananda Shetty, said that this project is being implemented with the involvement of private entities, and the project is expected to be completed in 36 months. Most of the processes relating to the construction of MLCP building have been completed. Once executed, this project will help to address parking and vehicular movement problem in this high density area. Mangaluru Smart City Ltd will execute this project. The project will be executed on the basis of design, build, finance, operation and transfer basis and the investors will manage all these things.

After the project is ready, the company which constructs the building will maintain it for 30 years. In this 1.69 lac sq ft building with three floors, 430 vehicles can be parked. There will be a commercial complex with modern amenities. The buildings which are existing either outside or inside will not be affected, he said.

The plan had been prepared by Mangaluru Urban Development Authority in the year 2014. The city corporation here had decided to execute the project on PPP model. After the city was chosen as smart city by the central government, this project is being executed through Mangaluru Smart City Ltd.

Good opportunity for the present regime to amass wealth at the tax payers cost. 95 crores spent to park 460 vehicles and construction period of 3 years, on a prime piece of public owned real estate, doesn’t make economic sense. What is needed is a building that can park 1000 cars - another flop project conceived by the MCC.

@ Rahim Robert, manglaore If you know all the facts in advance and can pdict the drawbacks, why cant you bid for the contract and execute the project as per specification. You can also fill your pocket with certain percentage which might workout in crore.

We would not need a Multi level parking if only The Authorities Demolish the Illegal shops et al constructed in Basements of Buildings /Commercial establishments which are existing in the Original plan of these Buildings.. Atleast twice or thrice a Year we hear the Threats of demolishing these illegal structures ...but then...No Action taken....n Vehicles are forced to be parked on Roadsides.. With 100 n more Vehicles registered every Day.....God save this "Will become Smart City.."

430 cars??? This is a failed project even before it has started. What difference such a small project can make? If it is to have any noticeable impact, then at least a parking facility for 1500 cars is needed. Any smart City project should look forward and plan for the next 10-25 years.

It's a shame on part of MCC to speak about this multi level parking. Not even a single project they have completed. More than 20 years over can't shieft the service bus stand, see pathetic condition of our old central market building, , Urva market complex what happened??. All circles they have destroyed, I request DC to take action against MCC planning officials, and planning advicer, They have spoiled the beauty of Mangalore. My request is first finish one single project, then move to other projects. What's this going on.

This is not a smart project. It is better to includetivities old, depleted buildings of either side of this area. OtBecause it projects and shows spacious building to both sides of main road, and give ample space for commercial activities for 3 floor's. So take e in consideration beforehand. It is not worthy to keep old depleted building out side this mega project.
