Oct 31: Steady decline in coronavirus as Dakshina Kannada reports 24 new cases, Udupi 2

Mangaluru/Udupi, Oct 31: The twin coastal districts on Sunday October 31 continued to see a decline in the number of coronavirus cases, with Dakshina Kannada reporting 24 new infections and Udupi only two.

As per the Dakshina Kannada district health bulletin, a total of 21,03,185 samples have been tested so far, out of which 19,87,707 have turned out to be negative.

The total number of positive cases in the district has risen to 1,15,478, out of which 276 are currently active.

As many as 20 patients were discharged from hospitals on Sunday, taking the total number of recoveries to 1,13,515.

The death toll in the district so far stands at 1,687, out of which five are non-Covid deaths. No death was reported on Sunday.

The positivity rate in the district stands at 0.32%.

Even though the cases are declining, the district administration has urged people to strictly continue maintaining social distance in public places and wear masks when stepping out of the house. Anyone not wearing a mask would be fined by the authority.

So far, the district administration has collected Rs 1,07,43,270 as fine in 88,503 incidents of mask violation.


Udupi

As per the district health bulletin, as many as 12,20,099 samples have been tested so far.

Only two new cases were reported on Sunday, taking the total number of cases to 76,704, out of which 39 are currently active.

A total of 6 patients were discharged from hospitals on Sunday, taking the total number of recoveries to 76,189.

Among the two new patients, one each is in home isolation and Covid-designated hospital.

Both the new cases were reported from Udupi and both are symptomatic.

Coronavirus has claimed 476 lives in the district so far. No death was reported on Sunday.

So far, 9,18,841 people have received the first dose of vaccination, while 5,26,891 have received the second dose.

A total of 53 cases of mucormycosis (black fungus) have been reported in the district so far, and all have recovered.
