Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Nov 1: The district level Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations were held at the Nehru Maidan here. Minister, S Angara, who unfurled the national flag, inspected the guard of honour and addressed the gathering.

School children sang songs hailing Kannada language and culture, including the state anthem.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLAs Vedavyasa Kamath and Dr Bharath Shetty, mayor Premananda Shetty, city police commissioner, N Shashi Kumar and others were present.

District level Rajyotsava award winners were presented thier awards and honoured.

Sadly the national flag was hoisted upside down. It remained an embarrassing eyesore of the event. Officials who realised the blunder, correctly hoisted the flag immediately.

i dont think kannada carries any significance in twin districts of DK and Udupi...still most of the people are not able to converse or even understand the language properly..here only tulu, konkani and byari languages are dominating...seems that demand for tulunadu is bit chappe now..

Can't agree your comments. I am Tuluva and I speak Tulu in Tulunadu and now in Bangalore Tulu at home. But during my childhood, my parents taught us Kannada at home, because they wanted us to be well versed in Kannada language. Till my primary school i always spoke in Kannada at home, though my parents and elders used Tulu. Many of my relatives who are in Gulf, taught Kannada to their children as secondary language. After 10th it helped them pursuing higher education in Karnataka.

Highly offensive act. How these politicians could lead a successful administration if the acts are upside down
