Case against Kerala Catholic bishop over 'narcotic jihad' remarks

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 1 (IANS): Almost two months after a Catholic bishop in Kerala said that Christian children should be safeguarded against "narcotic jihad" that is being pushed by a specific section of people, the state police on Monday filed a case against him, as directed by a local court in Kottayam.

A complaint to this effect was made by All India Imam's Council first to the local police, but after the police failed to act, they approached the local Pala court, which directed the police to file the case.

The Kuruvilangad police has registered the case.

Pala Archdiocese's Bishop Mar Joseph Kallarangat, while speaking at a function at Marth Mariam Pilgrim Church at Kuruvilangad in Kottayam district on September 9, alleged that non-Muslims in Kerala are subjected to "narcotic jihad", which is the spoiling lives, particularly of young people, by making them addicted to drugs.

After his speech became viral, several groups came out against the Bishop, especially Muslim organisations, and some extreme organisations carried out a protest march towards his house. The Congress put pressure on the Pinarayi Vijayan government to call for an all-party meeting, but he ignored them.

The BJP also joined issue and former Vice Chairman of the party's Minority Morcha, George Kurien, wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, seeking security for the Pala Bishop as "Muslim extremists had threatened him publicly with dire consequences".

What the Bishop said was 100 % True! Hats off to him for taking a bold stand against the menace of Love Jehad and Narcotics jehad which is rampant in our neighborhood. The state which was known for secularism has become the recruitment ground for Jehadis. There are more Salafi and Wahabi schools in the state than anywhere else in the country. While people from our neighborhood come to our state for Jobs and medical emergencies, the IVY league terrorist organisation's like ISIS go to their state to recruit their cadres. Highest number of ISIS recruitment happened from our neighborhood. These guys are more religious then the Saudi's and teach them about their religion. If things are not controlled immediately, then we will have to rename the state to some Arab name. God alone can save his country!!

Through an all-party and all religious leaders, meeting put an end to this. If the ruling party in Kerala is not listening to sane voices then the opposition should initiate such action. Narcotics ruining our youth is a known fact which doesn't need further elaboration.

The Jehadists are hell bent on to reduce the power of Westerners. Once the power of Westerners is out, the Jehadists will forcibly start convert all into Muslims. That is the reason Jehad was must for a Muslim. Fight, fight, to get behind in heaven..... Praise the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Truth always hurts. Bishop said the truth.

Alwin, you are absolutely right the Bishop has every right to speak on whatever topic he chooses to his followers, there is nothing in the law which stops him. Only people with cheap mentality and low lives will oppose what he has rightly preached in his sermon.

First you and the Imam council should look within yourselves before preaching to others, I did not hear you and council ever criticize the bigot Zakir Naik what happened then. At least the bishop has faith in the law of the nation and has not run away to other country.
