Counting of ballots for Haryana by-poll begins

Chandigarh, Nov 2 (IANS): Counting of ballots for the bypoll to Haryana's Ellenabad Assembly constituency began on Tuesday amidst tight security, an election official said.

The results are expected to by noon. Over 81 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the October 30 election.

The counting centre has been set up at Dr Ambedkar Law Bhawan of Chaudhary Devi Lal University in Sirsa.

With 19 candidates in the fray, the Ellenabad constituency in Sirsa district is witnessing a triangular contest among Abhay Singh Chautala of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), Gobind Kanda of the BJP and Pawan Beniwal of the Congress.

The bypoll was necessitated with the resignation of Chautala from the seat in January in protest against the three agricultural laws.

After winning the by-poll in 2010, Abhay retained the seat in 2014 and 2019.
