Mangalore: 140 Passengers Sail to Lakshadweep on 'Mini Coy'

Mangalore, Nov 6: ‘Mini Coy,’ the weekend holiday cruise vessel to Lakshdweep, sailed off from New Mangalore Port on Saturday, November 6, with 140 passengers on board the vessel.
 
The vessel will reach Kadmatt island, Lakshadweep on Sunday November 7 morning at 10 am. The vessel will return to Mangalore on Monday November 8.

Lakshadweep is located at a distance of about 144 nautical miles from Mangalore coast. This maiden trip turned out to be a luxurious Diwali gift introduced by the Lakshadweep Islands Tourism Department Authority.

The trip package costs Rs 5000 per individual. The trip lasts less than 14 hours.

    By the signs at the back of the
    boat, also the sign on the front, (M.V. Minicopy) if my memory is correct,
    this boat used to be a ferry
    boat in between Cochin and
    Lakshadweep.

    Bring in better vessels and professionalism to the word tourism. Print booklet about the Lakshadweep islands and the itinerary of the whole trip. This is how you want the tourist to board the vessel, wake-up and have some common sense. Tourism is a very powerful money-minting industry and don't take it lightly. Consult professionals and make it world standard cruise tourism of our region.

    Whatever be the condition of the vehicle and boarding it through rope ladder, it is a welcome sign that one can visit the islands. Now more details are needed as to where to book seats, how to arrange for accommodation food etc there. Will some one give these details

    This looks like a river ferry boat,
    but named as cruise vessel.

    Boarding the vessel through a
    flimsy ladder makes it very
    confusing. How hard it is for the
    passengers to climb this ladder
    of rope?

    Kudos to the "Lakshadweep Islands Tourism Department Authority".

    Few points to be worked upon:
    1. The access to the "Mini Coy", i.e., the rope ladder, doesn't look very friendly. I am just wondering how the old lady in the picture managed to go onboard the vessel. Hope a safe gangway will be arranged for the next trip.
    2. I'm not sure how safe the "Mini Coy" is, considering its size and the rough sea.
    3. 14 hrs trip is too short for so Lakshadweep islands.The fare of Rs. 5000 is quite reasonable though. The trip duration should be atleast 2 days in Lakshadweep. Fare can be proportionally increased. I'm sure there will be takers.
