Karkala: Police Successfully Recover Jain Statue Worth Rs 10 Lac - Nabs One

Karkala, Nov 6: The Udupi district police have successfully cracked the case of the theft at the Sri Nemeshwara Adinatha Swami Jain Basadi, Huriyangadi here. Police team here nabbed a culprit and also recovered the stolen panchaloha statue of Adinatha Swami worth Rs 10 lac.
Acting upon a complaint by Vidyakumar Bunnal of Karkala lthat on the intervening night of October 28 and 29 some unknown culprits had broken open the main door of the basadi and stolen the statue of Adinatha Swami measuring 4.5” height, 140 kg and approximately 500-year-old, on an investigation it was revealed that the accused persons had used a Maruti Omni van bearing number KA 17 M 5429. Soon the police team headed by Ravi, police sub-inspector (crime), Karkala town police station along with his staff, Mahesh Bhandary, Rajesh, Murthy and Naveen went to Harihar. The team detected the above vehicle and the driver Parashurama alias Parashu of Harihar.
On interrogation he admitted to committing theft along with two others and that the statue was in the possession of Narasinga Joshi at Hospet. The police team went to Hospet and recovered the stolen statue worth Rs 10 lac and made efforts to trace the two other accused persons who were absconding.
Under the guidance of Pravin Madhukar Pawar, SP Udupi, Sri M V Venkateshappa, additional SP and Santhosh Kumar deputy SP, Karkala and Puttasamy Gowda, CPI Karkala, the other officers were able to detect the case. Investigation and efforts are on to nab the other two absconding accused and the receiver.
SP Udupi has has announced a cash reward of Rs 10,000 to the Karkala police team.
