We'll always Remember 26/11: Obama Writes in Taj Guest Book


Mumbai, Nov 6 (IANS): "We will always remember the events of 26/11; not only the sorrow, but also the courage and humanity that was displayed that day," wrote US President Barack Obama in the guest book at the Taj here.

Obama wrote his comment in the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower Hotel guest book after paying respect to the victims of the November 2008 Mumbai terror attack that left at least 166 people dead.

"We will always remember the events of 26/11; not only the sorrow, but also the courage and humanity that was displayed that day. The United States stands in solidarity with all of Mumbai and all of India in working to eradicate the scourge of terrorism, and we affirm our lasting friendship with the Indian people," the presidential entry in the guest book read, the Wall Street Journal reported.

In a brief speech at the hotel, Obama condemned the 2008 attack by Pakistani terrorists who killed 166 people, including six Americans, in the financial capital of India.

The Obamas arrived in the afternoon at the start of a four-day India visit and will be spending Saturday night at the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower Hotel, that was pockmarked by terrorists' bullets and burnt for two November days, at the edge of the Arabian Sea.

After lunch in the Presidential Suite of the hotel, which was renovated at a cost of Rs.1900 million and thrown open in October this year, they will go to Mani Bhavan, now a museum dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi, a childhood hero of the US president.
