Kolar, Nov 9: Five members of a family who were afraid that their image might get sullied, ended their lives together. In this incident, five members of a single family died together. The incident happened at Karanjikatte extension in Kolar.
The members of this family had been questioned by the police relating to the kidnap of a newborn. It is learnt that the family was afraid of losing its respect and standing in the village. Therefore the family members consumed poison on Sunday November 7 in an effort to kill themselves.
The doctors in the district hospital provided preliminary treatment to the family members who were in serious condition and sent them to Jalappa Hospital for further treatment. But without responding to treatment Muniyappa (70), wife, Narayanamma (65), son-in-low, Babu (45) granddaughter, Gangotri (17) and daughter, Pushpa (33), lost their lives on Monday evening, it is learnt.
A woman had complained to the women's police station accusing Pushpa, daughter of Muniyappa, accusing her of abducting a 20-day-old baby and selling the same. The police had summoned the family members. As the police seemed to believe that the family members were guilty, they had ordered them return the child within three days.
