Udupi, Nov 9: World Radiology Day is observed every year on November 8 to commemorate the discovery of X-radiation, or X-rays. On this day in 1895, German scientist Wilhelm Conrad Rontgen completed the discovery of X-radiation, X-rays. In 1901, he became the first recipient of the Nobel Prize in Physics for this achievement.
As a part of this, the department of Radio diagnosis at Kasturba Medical College and Hospital, Manipal organized a programme. Dr H S Ballal- pro chancellor, MAHE Manipal inaugurated and released the information booklet in the programme and said, “The theme for the year is 'Interventional Radiology – Active care for the patient'. The theme aims at inviting “everyone to celebrate the essential role that interventional radiology plays in treating patients”. “Nowadays radiology department plays an important role in the diagnosis of disease”, he added.
Dr Sharath K Rao, dean-KMC was the guest of honour of the programme and said, “Invention of X ray given birth to many speciality and sub specialty and X Ray is the bread and butter for many specialities”.
C G Muthana chief operating officer, Dr Avinash Shetty, medical superintendent were guests of honor of the programme. Dr Prakashini K, head - department of Radiodiagnosis gave overview. Rajagopal K V- professor department of Radiodiagnosis welcomes the gathering. Dr Chethan Kumar M proposed a vote of thanks.
