Patna, Nov 11 (IANS): A 55-year-old man was killed in Bihar's Khagaria after he intervened in a heated quarrel between two relatives on Wednesday afternoon, police said.
Suresh Keshri sustained injuries on head and died on the spot after his nephew Raja Kumar Keshri hit him with an iron rod.
The entire incident came after Suresh Keshri's other nephew Chandan Keshri's wife Radha Rani received a message of winning Rs 25 lakh cash on her mobile phone three days ago.
"Raja Kumar Keshri learnt about the message. He assured her of help in obtaining Rs 25 lakh. He asked Radha Rani to give some money to initiate the process to claim the money. Accordingly, Radha Rani had given him Rs 50,000 cash, mangal sutra and other gold ornaments to Raja Kumar Keshri without informing her husband," Gogri police station SHO Pawan Kumar said.
"When Chandan Keshri learnt about the cash and jewellery being given to Raja Kumar Keshri, he applied pressure on his wife to take them back," he said.
"When Radha Rani demanded the same from Raja Kumar Keshri, he refused. This led to ugly spat between Raja Kumar Keshri, his father Bablu Keshri, and Chandan Keshri. When Suresh Keshri intervened in the matter, Raja smashed an iron rod on his head. Bablu Keshri also beat him. Suresh Keshri died on the spot. Chandan Keshri also sustained injuries," the SHO said.
Khagaria SDPO Manoj Kumar said: "We have arrested Raja Kumar Keshri and his father Bablu Keshri on the charge of murder. The entire incident was triggered due to Radha Rani's anticipation of Rs 25 lakh and Raja Kumar Keshri used the situation to dupe her."
