Another fatality in Muzaffarpur liquor tragedy, toll rises to 6


Patna, Nov 11 (IANS): The toll in the liquor tragedy in Bihar's Muzaffarpur went up to six on Wednesday after another person died in a private hospital in the district.

Rambabu Patel's family members created ruckus in the hospital after his death, and only calmed down after police arrived.

Patel is also native of Sirisiya Panchayat under Kanti police station. Five persons died on Tuesday after consuming poisonous liquor in the village on Monday night

The deceased were Sumit Mahto, Dilip Rai, Ashok Rai, Mohamad Sahjjad and one other. This was the second incident of poisonous liquor in the last 15 days which claimed more than 16 lives n the district.

Meanwhile, Muzaffarpur police arrested three persons including a Mukhiya candidate named Neeraj Kumar, his aide Anil Thakur and Nitesh Kumar on Wednesday.

"We have learnt that those accused were involved in distribution of liquor in the village ahead of Panchayat election scheduled November 15. We have also seized 55 litres oof country made liquor from their possession," Muzaffarpur SSP Jayant Kant said.

In another incident, district police arrested three women and a man from Ahiyapur village for allegedly selling liquor in the region.
