Bengaluru: Siddaramaiah rubbishes RSS claim, hails Tipu as secular king

Bengaluru, Nov 11: "In my opinion, Tipu Sultan was a secular king and popular hero. Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) abhors him because of religious bigotry and I do not care for their opinion," said former chief minister and leader of the opposition, Siddaramaiah.

He was speaking to a delegation of Muslim leaders led by former minister Zameer Ahmed Khan, who visited his residence to greet him on Tipu Jayanti on Wednesday November 10. Siddaramaiah commented that Tipu had given sleepless nights to the British and the Diwan and ministers in his court were Hindus.

Siddaramaiah said that Hyder Ali was the first king to have implemented the law that land belongs to the one who tills it. He said that Tipu had laid the foundation stone for the Krishnarajasagar dam and that there are a large number of documents to prove that Tipu had extended protection and assistance to many temples and Maths including Sringeri.

"Wherever Tipu constructed mosques, he also got temples built by their sides. This claim is also backed by records and documents. RSS which opposes Tipu never fought against the British," he pointed out. He also claimed credit for initiating Kempegowda Jayanti, Kittur Rani Chennamma Jayanti and Tipu Jayanti celebrations.

Speaking about the demand for Dalit chief minister, he said that the Congress alone has the history of having given the posts of chief ministers to the dalits. He said that the BJP government can bring Bommai down and replace him with a Dalit. He said that Congress chief minister in Punjab is a Dalit.

Former minister Zameeer Ahmed, M B Patil, V S Ugrappa and others were present.

Thousdands of Christians of the coastal belt, Kodavas of Coorg and scores of others were imprisoned, tortured, massacred and forcibly converted to Islam by Tippu Sultan as a ruler of Mysore. He never fought for the freedom for Mysore but for his own throne. Congress should not glorify Tippu as a freedom fighter at all. Tippu Sultan was bigot, intolerant and a ruthless ruler. I had visited Tippus tomb first. Honestly was not knowing much history st that time. Many many years later, I visited a place called ' Nettarakere' here in Bantwal. Got to know some horrific tales and terror unleashed there during the Tippu regime. " Nettarakere " in Kannada means a ' Pool of blood '. Christians and localities during their ' doomed march ' to Mysore under Tippus orders... hundreds slain there... resulting in pools of blood !!! Then I visited Melkote temple near Mandya. Deepavali even after 2 centuries not celebrated here for over 800 Hindus were massacred on that day ! How can such an Emperor be a Hero or freedom fighter who kills his own subjects ?? There must be a limit to nonsense. History has definitely been a casualty in India. Glorifying terror acts and suppressimg heroic ones... God knows for what?? Appeasement... vote banks?? All of us, I repeat all should know True Facts about OUR INDIA.

You cannot blame RSS for anything . They have not made any such statement on Tippu, at least not recently. Wonder why Siddu is dragging them into this. We all coastal Catholics know what Tippu did. The 'Sreerangapattana march' and 'Netthikere' is a black mark on Catholics. Due to such statements from these jokers, some if not many of the catholics are distancing away from the party. The rise of JDS and BJP minority morcha is really alarming. Its no more a surprise now.

His secular nature is on record by the writings to various temples where he has donated the treasury fund. Proud that he was a kannadiga who gave up his life fighting the British and did not write any "sorry" letters to become the obedient servant of british.
