Mangaluru: Council election - Rajendra Kumar to enter fray as independent

Mangaluru, Nov 13: President of South Canara District Central Cooperative Bank Ltd, Dr M N Rajendra Kumar, will be contesting as an independent candidate for the council election being held on December 10 from local body constituencies. He will submit nomination papers on November 22.

Kumar addressed a press meet held here on Friday November 12. He said he decided to contest the election as gram panchayat members, members of urban local bodies and people in the cooperative field brought pressure on him. He said that district and taluk committees and election monitoring committee have been formed to supervise preparations for which Deviprasad Shetty Belapu will be the chief in-charge of the election. He also said that Shashikumar Rai Balyottu will be the in-charge of Dakshina Kannada district and Jayakar Shetty Indrali for Udupi district. Taluk level committees have also been formed.

Rajendra Kumar said that his candidature has drawn support form leaders of various parties and that he counts on the goodwill he has earned from the people due to the services he has rendered in the cooperative and social service sectors. He said his main thrust will be strengthening the local bodies, enhancement of grants to these bodies, increasing of honorarium for the members, added impetus to improve infrastructure and development initiatives. He also stated that his election office located in Inland Ornate building, Navbharat Circle, will be inaugurated on November 15.
