IGNOU-UNESCO Science Olympiad Winners to be Felicitated


New Delhi, Nov 11 (IANS) Forty-one students from India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives and Sri Lanka will be felicitated by the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) at an award function Sunday for winning the IGNOU-UNESCO Science Olympiad, 2010, an official said Thursday.

"The examination took place (Aug 22) in 102 centres in these countries including 83 in India. Of 4,384 participants, 41 have been selected for their outstanding performance and have been invited to receive medals, cash prizes and merit certificates," a university official said.

The award function coincides with late former prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru's 121st birthday, 25th anniversary (Silver Jubilee) of IGNOU and 65th anniversary of UNESCO.

IGNOU is one of the world's largest open universities which provides education to 1.5 million students.
