Mangalore, Nov 11: The Yenepoya Medical College Hospital celebrated National Education Day to commemorate the birthday of Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad, an eminent educationist, a great leader of India's freedom struggle and the first union minister of education on Thursday November 11.
Dr P Chandramohan, vice chancellor, Yenepoya University presided.
On the occassion Dr Gururaja Rao, endocrinologist, Yenepoya Medical College Hospital explained about the problems faced by diabetes and also about its prevention and alleviation.
Giving a presentation he said that diabetes commonly are prevalent in those whose blood relatives have diabetes, one without physical exercise, habitual of unhealthy food, having excessive body weight, one with high blood pressure, old aged and also one who suffered from diabetes during pregnency.
Diaganosis of diabetes at an early stage, following a proper diet, taking medicines or insulin regularly as per the expert doctors’ advice along with controlling high BP and cholestral among others can prevent these complications, he added.
As per the prevention-oriented governmental policies various activities are conducted by Yenepoya University to celebrate National Education Day through Yenepoya Medical College Hospital and Rural and Urban Health Care Units of university.
Dr Ashok Nayak, head, department of general medicine was present. Mohammed Gutthigar compered the programme.
