Mangalore, Nov 12:
The second edition of 'Kanoon Mahet,' a Konkani book on law authored by advocate Stanley D'Costa was released at a glittering ceremony in Hotel Gold Finch here on Friday, November 12.

Speaking after releasing the book, state Konkani Sahitya Academy president Narayana Kharvi said that it is the mother tongue that plays an instrumental role in retaining one's identity. Thus, it becomes the duty of every mother in the Konkani community to teach her child Konkani without fail and to state it as the mother tongue at the time of census, which in turn is necessary to show the actual strength of the community.

Calling the Konkani speaking people ‘soft spoken,’ he said that the book on law will enable the people of the Konkani community to be more aware of law and their rights. He further said that one's mother tongue itself is a ‘degree,’ which cannot be replaced. He appreciated the fact that over 1,500 copies of Kanoon Daiz, another Konkani law book had been sold previously, calling it a wonderful achivement.

Mangalore Bar Association president S P Chengappa who was the chief guest at the programme opined that the book on law should be a mediator for those who have scarce knowledge on the subject. He lauded the work of union law minister Veerappa Moily for bringing the three academies viz Kannada, Konkani and Tulu to coastal districts, without which it would have been difficult to publish the book, he added.

He further said that ignorance of law is no excuse and that knowledge of law can build courage in one's mind.

Dr Edward Nazareth, chief guest at the programme congratulated the author on doing a 'great work' by writing a book on law in Konkani language.

The author Stanley R D’Costa said that he intended to create knowledge about law in the community by writing a book. "The late Konkani author Victor Rodrigues helped me in editing my first book on law, Kanoon Daiz," he added.

The new book deals with ten laws which would be very helpful in day-to-day life, covering various topics like divorce laws, will preparation, rights of police, quantum of punishment for various criminal activities like food adulteration and cyber crime laws among others, he informed.

Dolphy Lobo, ex-editor of Mithr welcomed the gathering and conducted the programme. Rita Noronha, educator in Community Development Studies, Roshni Nilaya, School of Social Work and Ivan D’Souza were present.

The words of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy President are opening our eyes.t becomes the duty of every mother in the Konkani community to teach her child Konkani without fail and to state it as the mother tongue at the time of census, which in turn is necessary to show the actual strength of the community. How many of us today speak konkani at our home? Our children are speaking Hinglish neither english nor konkani. If I and you don't speak our own mother tongue at home who else will speak? We should think the mistake we have already done. Atleast from today onwards we will speak konkani at home this should be the spirit of all. I on my behalf and on behalf of my friends here wish Stanley all the best in his futre career

A need is arised today to all of us to know our rights and duties towards our nation. We all should know the basic knowledge of various law which is required to our daily life today especially in D.K. Kalangan is doing a wonderful work in the promotion of art. How to educate our own konkani brothern is by imparting legal knowledge to them. Stanley has already written one law book with 20 laws and his second book contains 10 laws which will help the common konkani people. Hence I call upon Mandd Sobhann team to make every effort to distribute atleast 1000 copies of his books to konkani people and thereby educate konkani people. If this is done really konkani will survive and common people will gain legal knowledge and Mandd Sobhanns name also flourish in the world at large

It is a pleasure to see Kundapur Narayan Karvi on the dias. He is a dedicated person to the core. A multi talented person is gifted to the konkani academy. About the Kanoon Mahet book release a good news to konkani people. When the churches were attacked christians disobeyed the lands law and because church bells rang they stepped into the street and fought with the police when there was Section 144 in force. If they know earlier that when there is section more than 5 people should not gather such untoward incident would not have happened. So atleast now Stanley D'Costa is educating the konkani people in their own language. Everybody should support him by purchasing a copy of the book and gain basic knowledge of law. I wish him success

Good news to my brother n that Stanley D'Costa has released one more knoknani Law book. Wonderful work done by him within two years. We all should support him for his work because as stated by our Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy President Sri Narayana Karvi Konkani speaking people ‘soft spoken,’ he said that the book on law will enable the people of the Konkani community to be more aware of law and their rights. He further said that one's mother tongue itself is a ‘degree,’ which cannot be replaced. He appreciated the fact that over 1,500 copies of Kanoon Daiz, another Konkani law book had been sold previously, calling it a wonderful achivement. I do agree his statement. May god give him strength and courage in his future work. Let the public be benefited by him.

Well done Mr.Stanley D'Costa. You showed us the way how to love our mother tongue. I agree the statement of our Sahitya Academy President that "it becomes the duty of every mother in the Konkani community to teach her child Konkani without fail and to state it as the mother tongue at the time of census, which in turn is necessary to show the actual strength of the community." Further more M.C of the programme has made an observation that only those who are working individually are successful here but who are together with the community folk are not coming up in our society. So we have to introspect ourselves why this is so? Is it because of our relegious leaders or because of our lay leaders of the community. I respect Mr.Stanleys work which will definetely help the public at large. Congrats Stanley

I really appreciate the commend the good work done i.e. too writing laws in konkani that too for the benefit of my own mother tongue speaking people is a great job done by Sri Stanley D'Costa a young advocate of Mangalore. I read his first book which contains enough laws which are leading any common man to the right direction. I believe Mr. Stanleys 2nd book contains better information to the common people as envisaged by the chief guests in the book releasing ceremony. Congrats Stanley

I am very happy to see photographs of leading dignitories of Konkani in releasing the book of Sri Stanley D'Costa. The observation of Mangalore Bar Council President is really encouraging to the writers as well as creating awareness about legal knowledge to the rural people. It is correct to note that every citizen should know his basic rights and duties as told by the President of Konkani Sahitya Academy. Any way I wish the author Mr. Stany all the best and bright future in his future endeavour
