Udupi, Nov 17: “The government of India had provided me accommodation worth Rs 24,130 though I earn only Rs 100. I had never been to school but I thank everybody who awarded me the Padma Shri award,” said Padma Shri Harekala Hajabba.
He was speaking in the discussion forum titled ‘orange is not just a fruit’ held by MGM College NSS unit, Mahatma Gandhi Rovers unit and Kasturba Rangers unit at Ravindra Kala Mantapa auditorium on Wednesday, November 17.
Lokayuktha justice Vishwanath Shetty said that students are the wealth of our country. “Every student can reach high position. They should make most use of the opportunities coming their way,” he said.
Hajabba was felicitated by college and district administration. Lokayuktha justice Vishwanath Shetty was honoured by the college.
Deputy commissioner Kurma Rao, tahsildar Pradeep Kurdekar, MGM college principal Dr Devidas Naik, P U College’s Malati Devi and Dr Govinda Pai research centre management official Dr Jagadish Shetty were present.
NSS project officer Suchith Kotian welcomed, compered the programme and gave a key note address. Rovers Scout leader Avinash Acharya rendered a vote of thanks.
Earlier Harekala Hajabba and MGM alumni Lokayuktha Vishwanath Shetty were escorted to the Ravindra Mantapa podium in procession after march past from the main door of the college.
