Mangalore: Insignia Jr to be Held In City on Children’s Day

Mangalore, Nov 13: The Students' Action Movement (SAM), the students wing of the Centre for Integrated Learning (CIL) in association with the Interact Club of Canara High School (main), will hold a daylong district level Inter-School Leadership Development Programme for high school students, Insignia Jr, at Canara Boys High School, Dongarkeri in the city on Sunday November 14.

The daylong event, which coincides with the Children’s Day, is intended to provide an opportunity to students from various high schools in and around the city to come together to empower themselves so as to enable to groom as future leaders. It shall also provide a platform to sensitise the high school students on civic issues and their role in the society.

Insignia Jr, is prompted by the successful conduct of Insignia 2010, a student Leadership Programme for degree students organized recently by the Youth wing of CIL, CREST at SDM Law College which attracted about 100 students from as many as 20 institutions from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi.

The sessions will be participative in nature and would deal with topics ranging from Leadership Effectiveness to Civic Sense, Policing a City and Multiple Intelligence. During the programme, students will also work out socially relevant projects that they would implement in their respective schools.

As many as 150 students from about 20 institutions are expected to participate in the Insignia Jr. The event is planned to provide lot of fun, knowledge and interactions facilitated by various resource persons from the field of Human Resource Development, said Ruth D’Silva, a student of std IX  of St Theresa School who is the convener of Insignia Jr. She added that the students will also be
understanding various social and civic issues around us as we interact with commissioner of Mangalore City Corporation K N Vijayprakash and commissioner of police, Seemanth Kumar Singh during the deliberations.

The event will be inaugurated by eminent orthodontist and former National President of Indian Dental Association, Dr U S Krishna Nayak.
