New Delhi/Bengaluru, Nov 21 (IANS): The 'TN Khoshoo Memorial Award' in the name of the late environmental science pioneer Dr Triloki Nath Khoshoo, to recognise individuals who have made marked contributions to the field of ecology and environment, has been announced to Dr Tanya Seshadri and Dr N.S. Prashanth.
Instituted by Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE) in 2004, the award ceremony for the 'TN Khoshoo Memorial Award 2021' will take place on November 23 at Bangalore International Centre, a release from ATREE said on Sunday.
ATREE, a multi-disciplinary knowledge institution, is working at the interface of cutting edge ecological research and its contemporary societal applications. It is a unique action-research institution in the environmental space applying the highest traditions of academia to contribute to critical environmental action.
"The TN Khoshoo awards are an essential aspect of ATREE's activity to continuously recognize, reward and support significant work being done in the environmental space," said Trustee of ATREE and Vice Chancellor, Transdisciplinary University, Dr Darshan Shankar.
This year's recipients Seshadri and Prashanth have done exemplary work during the pandemic, setting up the Tribal Health Resource Centre and overseeing the hospital and community health program catering to the Solega and other Adivasi communities in Chamarajnagar district, Karnataka, the release said.
The event will also be screened virtually.
Expressing the need for the award, founder and president of ATREE, Kamaljit Bawa said, "Our environmental challenges are complex. We need environmental leaders that can bring together knowledge from different disciplines and apply this knowledge upstream for policy change and downstream for transformative action on the ground. The TN Khoshoo award is a platform that aptly encourages and empowers diverse conservation stakeholders to further their outstanding work in conservation and sustainability."
