Udupi, Nov 22: "The Brahmavar-Barkur-Jannady road has been lagging behind in development for many years. No development is happening in Barkur due to politics. The road was upgraded to state highway in the year of 2020. After some political development, the road was demoted to earlier order in 2021. Politics on the widening of the road should stop and MLA of Kundapur should take the responsibility of triggering some development works in Barkur," said Sadashiv Shetty, district president, social and RTI activists' association.
He was speaking at Udupi press club on Monday November 22. He said, “Brahmavar-Jannady is a road wth heavy vehicular movement. Moreover, Barkur is a tourist place and hub of historical destinations. Brahmavar, Barkur, Jannady, Bidkalkatte, Souda, and Siddhapur are the main roads. If the roads are developed, it would help vehicular movement. The government issued an order but was withdrawn later which halted the development work. It is the responsibility of the people’s representative to get compensation for landlords. But this should not be a reason for halting development work. Reversing an order is not correct. They should have foresight about their own constituency.
"Day-by-day, vehicle moment is increasing. Many accidents were reported on the same road and a few people lost lives, as it is a narrow road. The situation has changed over the year, but the road seems to reman the same. No development is taking place. The Kundapur constituency MLA has to come and initiate some development work," he said.
Shekhar Havanje, Manjunath Shetty, Shankar Shanthi, Ansar Ahmed, Pramod Uchila and others were present.
