Lebanon marks 78th Independence Day with military parade

Beirut, Nov 23 (IANS): Lebanon celebrated on Monday the country's 78th Independence Day with a military parade, Lebanon's Presidency said in a statement.

Held at the Defense Ministry in Yarzeh, southeast of the capital Beirut, the parade began with a 21-gun salute, followed by President Michel Aoun laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Xinhua news agency reported.

Helicopters and Tucano aircraft from the Lebanese Air Force flew over the venue, carrying a Lebanese flag.

It was followed by a military parade with the internal security forces, the general security forces, the United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon, the Lebanese Army Military Academy, the Lebanese navy and others.

President Aoun gave a speech a day earlier to mark the occasion, vowing to put Lebanon on the track of reforms to save the country from its crisis.
